Having a flat buttocks or “gluteal hypoplasia” can be either constitutional or the result of a trauma (isolated hollow in the buttocks), a neurological disease leading to a muscular melting of the buttocks or weight loss (case of drooping buttocks).

Patients with flat buttocks can recently benefit from a buttock augmentation by fat transfer or hyaluronic acid injection (Macrolane).

This improves the shape of the buttocks and harmonises the silhouette.

Currently, in addition to the buttock prostheses allowing a buttock augmentation, two techniques are used in Nice and Beausoleil / Monaco for buttock augmentation

Buttock augmentation by fat injection (BBL) or lipofilling

This is the famous Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL).

Fat is removed by gentle liposuction from the patient’s body (abdomen, hips, thighs, knees). The sucked-in fat is then processed by centrifugation according to Coleman. Other more recent fat handling and treatment systems are used in Nice by Dr Gasnier and Dr Dumas.

The purified fat is then re-injected into the buttocks through millimeter incisions using a non-traumatic cannula.

This is a true fat cell transplant.

Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)

Augmentation by injection of Hyaluronic Acid (Hyacorp)

Hyacorp is used in buttock augmentation as an alternative to lipofilling. Hyacorp has replaced Macrolane in this indication.

It is a resorbable filler based on highly cross-linked hyaluronic acid and is therefore very voluminous.

The injections are made by cannula through millimetre-sized incisions, after local anaesthesia of the buttocks.
