The risks of the operation are:
- Haematoma (blood pocket around the prosthesis) requiring if necessary a surgical resection within 48 hours.)
- Infection: Antibiotics will be prescribed in the aftermath. The bandages applied daily will limit this risk as much as possible. At most, an intervention will be decided to treat an infection, with removal of the prosthesis.
- Unfavourable evolution of the scar: exceptional at this level, a delay in healing is however sometimes observed.
- Risk of thrombo-embolic complications such as phlebitis, which can be prevented by wearing support stockings and the prescription of anti-coagulants.
In the end, buttock augmentation with prostheses gives very good results when the indication is well placed, and should only be reserved for patients who are not eligible for buttock lipofilling, as the consequences are restrictive.
