WHAT VOLUME OF BREAST PROSTHESIS TO CHOOSE?<\/h2><\/span>

The choice of breast prosthesis volume is an important decision<\/strong> during preoperative consultations and requires a prolonged discussion with the patient in order to fully understand her expectations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the consultation, questions will be asked about the desired cup and the desired projection, whether or not a natural result will be obtained .<\/p>\n

However, trying out prostheses of different volumes during the consultation is the step that usually allows the patient to really see the result and therefore to define the desired volume. This choice will be helped by the surgeon’s opinion based on his experience.<\/p>\n

Patients often get an idea of the volume of breast implant they want by consulting many forums or before\/after pictures on the internet, but it is only after a clinical examination, trials of different sizes of implants and discussion with the surgeon that the ideal volume will be defined.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The average volume of breast prostheses fitted in France is around 280cc but there are wide variations in this average volume depending on the region in particular. In the United States, for example, the volume of breast implants is around 350cc.<\/p>\n

This type of implant allows an increase from one cup to one and a half cups depending on the case.<\/p>\n

It is very frequent that patients arrive in consultation with a desire for moderate breast augmentation. They will then tend to choose a moderate volume, as a precaution, for fear of obtaining a too important augmentation that they do not wish and that they will not assume. However, once operated on, these patients quickly get used to their new volume, and it is not uncommon for them to express a slight regret about the volume they have chosen and to begin to feel that it is too moderate.<\/p>\n

Thus, anticipating this frequent post-operative reaction, the surgeon will tend to avoid being too cautious about the volume chosen, and will sometimes propose a slightly larger size if he judges that it will not exceed the patient’s final expectations.<\/p>\n

The volume of implant chosen will of course take into account the overall morphology of the patient and the width of the thorax, avoiding a base prosthesis too large exceeding the limits of the thorax and leading to an unnatural result.<\/p>\n

The most commonly used implants have volumes between 200 and 500cc, rarely more.<\/p>\n

In practice, the average volume of breast prostheses for breast augmentation in a patient with an average size (about 1m65 and a weight of 55kgs) and an A-B cup, will be 280 to 350cc.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
