BREAST AUGMENTATION BY LIPOFILLING

Breast augmentation by fat transfer, also known as lipostructure, lipomodelling or breast lipofilling, is a very recently validated technique for correcting moderate breast hypotrophy using the patient’s own fat.

This new technique is thus an alternative to conventional breast augmentation with silicone prostheses.

This procedure is intended for patients with no personal or family history of breast cancer.

Because breast augmentation by fat transfer uses the patient’s own fat, patients must also have sufficient fat harvesting sites on the buttocks, abdomen or hips. In addition, each patient requesting this type of procedure agrees to have a mammogram and ultrasound of the breasts before the procedure and to repeat these examinations at 1 year, 2 years and 3 years after the procedure.
This technique is becoming more and more widespread and it is now possible to have this type of breast augmentation even after the age of 35.

  • This recent technique of breast augmentation without prostheses allows a moderate but completely natural increase in breast volume without foreign bodies.
  • The result is totally harmonious, avoiding the appearance of artificial breast.
  • Also on palpation, the breast remains supple. This breast augmentation cannot be detected by touch.
  • At the same time, as this fat transfer requires liposuction first, the excess fat located on the rest of the body (removal sites) will be treated during the same procedure.
  • The usual scars from a breast augmentation with prostheses are also absent.

Classic calcifications are visible on mammography after fat transfer to the breasts. But these calcifications are different from those seen in breast cancer and do not pose diagnostic problems for experienced radiologists.

To date, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that breast augmentation by fat transfer could lead to the development of breast cancer.

Preoperative drawings are made in a standing position in order to identify the areas of fat removal by liposuction in the buttocks, abdomen, hips and/or thighs. Drawings of the precise reinjection site on the breasts are also made. The procedure for ammaire augmentation by lipofilling begins with a fat removal by liposuction (liposuction).

The fat thus removed is then treated by centrifugation. This step is essential to keep only the fat cells of good quality. Finally, the fat is reinjected into the breasts through millimetre-sized incisions, which are almost invisible over time. MODE OF ANESTHESIA

General anaesthesia is typically offered.

A diazanalgesia can also be performed: you sleep during the operation and do not feel any pain but breathe by yourself. Waking up is usually more comfortable.

HOSPITALIZATION MODALITIES

Usually a 24-hour hospital stay is necessary. The operation is performed in the morning, and discharge is possible the following morning.

However, in some cases, a so-called “ambulatory” hospitalization with discharge the same evening of the operation is possible.

 

DURATION OF THE OPERATION

The intervention lasts from 1 to 3 hours.

An edema (swelling) is present for 1 to 3 months. Most of the time the pain is very well tolerated. An analgesic treatment will be prescribed for 8 days.
Sports activities will be allowed after 6 to 8 weeks. The volume of the breasts immediately after the operation is not the final volume.
In fact, the initial oedema will disappear in 1 to 3 months. In the same way, the transferred fat volume will decrease by about 30% in the long term.
The final result will therefore be assessed at 6 months.
