KELLER FUNNEL

For several years now, Dr. Gasnier and Dr. Dumas have been almost systematically using the “Keller Funnel” during their breast augmentation procedures. This is a breast prosthesis insertion device in the form of a sterile, single-use pouch in which the implant is positioned prior to insertion.

This device combines many advantages :

  • It prevents the surgeon from directly manipulating the implant during its introduction (no technical touch) and thus reduces the risk of infection.
  • The risk of trauma to the prosthesis during insertion is almost nil with this device, unlike the classic finger technique during which it is not uncommon for the implant to be damaged.
  • It reduces the length of the scars, as an implant of significant volume can be introduced through a smaller incision than in a conventional technique.
  • The duration of the operation is reduced because the implants are placed more quickly.

All of these advantages have led Dr. Dumas and Dr. Gasnier to abandon the conventional placement of breast implants.

This breast implant insertion technique can be performed using three different approaches: submammary, peri-areolar and axillary.
